Taylor Street Special Chili

Grab the big crockpot and make this one for a crowd. It’s based on Chicago’s Little Italy section and it’s
big enough to feed the whole famiglia. It’s a sausage and peppers chili with tons of Italian flavor, very
few ingredients and a helping of giardiniera that’ll wake up your taste buds – Mangia!
Level of Difficulty: Easy
Serves 10-12.
Lineup:
1.25 lb. ground round
3 lbs. bulk Italian sausage
2 green peppers, diced
2 red peppers, diced
2 teaspoons oregano
2 (14.5 oz.) cans Chili-Ready diced tomatoes
1 (28 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
3 cups beef stock
1 (16 oz.) jar hot giardiniera, drained and rinsed
1 lb. mozzarella cheese, shredded
Playbook:
In a large stockpot, brown the ground round and the Italian sausage. Drain. Add meats to a 6 quart
crockpot. Add green peppers, red peppers, oregano, diced tomatoes, crushed tomatoes and beef
stock. Stir well. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours. Add the giardiniera and ladle chili into bowls. Top
with mozzarella cheese.
